Paris ePrix race report

Sébastien Buemi extended his championship lead and gave Renault a home victory in a Paris ePrix that saw several stints under yellow flags and ended in unusual circumstances. Buemi had a good start off the line, although came under early pressure when Vergne tried first the inside, then the outside line to try and make an early pass. But once the initial threat was over, Vergne had little extra to challenge with. Buemi was able to start moving away quickly, opening up a 2-second gap within the opening few laps. Vergne's Techeetah is undeniably a fast car -- it's powered by Renault, after all -- so although it initially appeared he was holding up the rest of the field, he kept the gap to Buemi down by setting a number of consecutive fastest laps. Behind the leaders, Jose Maria Lopez was able to keep pace and held on to third. Esteban Gutierrez was holding up the field, with a gap of 4.6 seconds behind the Mahindra 4-5 of Heidfeld and Roseqvist. Daniel Abt picked up four plac...

Paris ePrix qualifying report

When Sébastien Buemi's name was drawn in the first qualifying group, there were audible groans from the Renault garage. Not only because track conditions are always at their worst at the start, but also because they would be up against a very strong set of drivers. Both Abt Schaeffler team cars, Sam Bird and Felix Rosenqvist would also be taking to the streets of Paris in group one. They were not alone in feeling cautious: all five drivers sat in their garages watching the clock tick down for almost 2 minutes, waiting for someone to blink. In the end, it was Bird out on track first, but he had a poor second-half to his lap and was unable to set a good enough time. Despite all the drama, Buemi ended up going fastest; Lucas di Grassi was 0.6 seconds off the championship leader's pace, a disappointing result for the Brazilian. Mitch Evans put in a really impressive lap in the second group, enough to take provisional fourth. Mike Conway, making his return to Formula E...

Paris ePrix preview

Round six of the 2017 Formula E season takes place this Saturday around the streets of Paris. The race will mark the official half-way stage of this year's championship. It is also the final "single-race" circuit before three double-header weekends in Berlin, New York and Montreal. Driver changes Former Venturi driver Mike Conway will be returning to Formula E for the Paris ePrix. He'll be replacing Loïc Duval at Faraday Future, who has DTM commitments. Conway picked up seven points from seven races last season, having taken Jacques Villeneuve's vacant seat. The DTM race weekend at the Lausitzring also means Maro Engel is unavailable. Current Formula V8 3.5 champion Tom Dillmann will take his place in the Venturi garage. Championship battle Sébastien Buemi's victory in Monaco last weekend keeps him at the top of the drivers' championship. The gap to Lucas di Grassi is only 15 points, thanks to his second-place finish. Although the Renault...

Monaco ePrix race report

The battle for top spot on the podium came down to the wire at the second Monaco ePrix. Championship rivals Sébastien Buemi (Renault) and Lucas di Grassi (Abt Schaeffler Audi) crossed the line first and second, but with very little to separate them. The Monaco circuit is notoriously narrow, so there was a relatively cautious start. A number of cars picked up damage though, José Maria Lopez picking up a broken nose and rear wing in the melee. Nick Heidfeld and Sam Bird both avoided trouble and made up places quickly. Nelson Piquet Jr repeated the performance of several drivers in the qualifying session and bumped the barriers. The shunt didn't appear to cause any damage, and he managed to keep pace with Lucas di Grassi for a considerable period of the race. Meanwhile, at the front, it was business as usual as Buemi built a commanding lead over the rest of the field, lap by lap. DS Virgin's woes deepened when Bird caught too much of the chicane's kerbs and slammed into ...

Monaco ePrix qualifying report

The iconic Monaco street circuit welcomed the return of Formula E this morning, and an exciting qualifying session sets up a fascinating story for this afternoon's ePrix. Sébastien Buemi will start on pole, with arch-rival Lucas di Grassi next to him on the front row. Qualifying Sébastien Buemi came out on top in the first qualifying group, with a clean run around a slippery Monaco track. Loïc Duval placed second, although could well have topped the session had he not been held up by Buemi on his second hot lap. It appeared that the Renault driver was unaware of fast traffic behind him, forcing Duval to swerve round him. The gap between the two men just 0.5 seconds on the final classification. In the second group, several drivers seemed to be struggling with the lack of grip. Nico Prost used every available inch of the track in a ragged out lap, and failed to make an impact on the top five as a result. Adam Carroll hit the barriers at Tabac and damaged his right-rears, a...

Monaco ePrix preview

Formula E returns to the world-famous streets of Monaco next weekend. The championship race has been re-ignited by Lucas di Grassi's victory in the last round, which narrowed the gap between him and Sébastien Buemi to just five points. Both men enjoyed a successful visit to Monte-Carlo when the championship last visited in the 2015 season. Buemi took first place, two seconds ahead of his rival. In the first three races of this season, Buemi has repeated this finish, but a 14th-place finish in Mexico City ended his dominance of the title battle. A number of driver changes will be taking place over the next few rounds of the season. Esteban Gutierrez will drive only his second race for Techeetah having replaced Ma Qing Hua. Amlin Andretti's Robin Frijns is a doubt for Monaco due to an injury he picked up in the Blancpain GT Series. Clashes with other race series will see further changes at the Paris ePrix on 20 May. Short circuit The Monaco ePrix circuit is significantly ...
