This post is mostly downbeat

I'm not the world's biggest fan of Hallowe'en. In fact, I can't stand it. And it annoys me that people are more willing to put a lot of effort into "celebrating" it than they are for St. George's Day. Mind you, this lady had it much worse.

I've always enjoyed listening to Billy Bragg. Not just for his music, but also for his views on nationality, patriotism, and what it means to be English when we're all born under two flags. I'm ashamed to say I don't own any of his music - because I refuse to download it illegally - but if anyone wants to buy me his new book or new box-set - they're more than welcome.

This year's English Literature course is rubbish. The books I have to read are dull, un-inspiring and lack any individualism. After a while, one slightly bawdy Restoration play simply merges with the next; one crack-pot Critical and/or Literary theory runs into another. I am not looking forward to writing essays on them; I am not looking forward to another 6 weeks of them once those essays are handed in.

It's not all doom and gloom. I enjoy my Working Class Culture module. It's informative, it's challenging, but most importantly it's fun: I enjoy listening to people of different generations, different counties, and different countries argue about the 1980s. But I still have to write 2,000 words on it, and that only serves to disappoint me again.

On the plus side, Never Mind The Buzzcocks is back on telly, Torchwood is brilliant, and Dartford beat Corinthian-Casuals 3-1 in today's Ryman League game. Woot.
